"Therapy provides a safe and confidential space for you to talk to a trained professional about your difficulties and concerns. Your therapist will help you explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours so you can develop a better understanding of yourself and of others". -BACP
As your counsellor, my aim is to help you manage and cope with everyday life. It may be you are struggling to understand why you respond to certain situations, or you may have experienced loss or trauma in your life. No matter your difficulty or challenge, I will be here to listen and support you through your journey. I support adults, children and young people. Take a look at the 'Services' link to view the types of counselling I cover.
My focus is to help people heal, feel more energized, and become aware of their inner strengths. This is achieved by providing a neutral, safe space, listening to your difficulties, and offering strategies and tools to support you in making positive choices. By engaging in the therapeutic process, you are taking steps to build your self-esteem and confidence and to understand that you are enough.
“I’m not perfect, but I’m enough.” - Carl Rogers.
Hello there! My name is Carolyn.
As a qualified counsellor, I understand that life can be tough and overwhelming, which is why I'm here to offer you support and guidance.
I believe that each person is unique, and that's why I take a tailored approach to counselling. My aim is to create a safe and comfortable environment where you can share your story and engage in the therapeutic process.
I have experience working with children, adults, and young people, and I approach each individual's needs with care and compassion. I use various methods, including walking and talking therapy, sand tray therapy, active listening, and offering unconditional positive regard and empathy at all times. I want you to know that there is no judgment in my therapy room, and it's a safe space where you can feel comfortable to open up and be yourself.
I understand that taking the first step to engage in counselling can be overwhelming and daunting. However, I'm here to reassure you that this is a natural response, and my role is to ensure that you feel safe and at ease within the therapeutic environment.
I have experience working with domestic violence, trauma, and neurodiversity, among other things. I have completed further training in these fields and hold a level 4 SEN diploma, ACES, Safeguarding, and Prevention. I also hold a full and up-to-date DBS (Enhanced).
I have worked within local schools and set up wellbeing hubs alongside working with small groups of children and young people to support mental health and emotional regulation.
As a mother of neurodiverse children, I offer personal understanding and experience when supporting neurodiverse families. I want you to know that I'm here to support you and that your well-being is my top priority.
“Shame is the deepest of the “negative emotions,” a feeling we will do almost anything to avoid. Unfortunately, our abiding fear of shame impairs our ability to see reality.”
― Gabor Maté.
